The number of children playing:

Optional, but no more than 30 (in case of more players, it makes sense to make two smaller groups).

Equipment:

The game can be played outdoors or indoors. The event space is designed by the group itself to make a circle.

Handkerchief, strap, piece of cloth… something that the player can hide in his hand and does not cause noise during the fall.

The story »behind the game«

Instructions / rules:

One player is selected to start the game.

  • The game starts with the players squatting in a circle.
  • The one who is selected hides a handkerchief or a piece of cloth and starts walking around the outside of the circle.
  • Players determine the walking direction at the beginning.
  • While walking around the edge of the circle, the player speaks the following song:

I carry a rotten egg,
I won’t give it even if you beg.
Full of water is the tank,
Look back and you’ll get spanked.

  • While the player walks and speaks verses, he tries to release the handkerchief behind the squatting player’s back as seamlessly as possible. Once he discards the handkerchief, his job is to get around the circle as quickly as possible and get to the place where he threw the handkerchief. This place then becomes his.
  • If the player fails to notice the handkerchief behind his back and manages to make a full circle, the player must sit in the middle of the circle and become a rotten egg.
  • However, if a player notices a handkerchief behind his back, he picks it up and goes hunting for the player who dropped the handkerchief. If he is caught, he becomes trapped by a rotten egg and must sit in the middle of the circle. If he is caught or not, in either case he resumes the play.
  • The game ends when the players are tired of playing.

Rules:

  • Players run only on the outside of the circle.
  • Players should not tell each other that they have a handkerchief behind their back. They can’t even wink at him/her.

Hint:

The game becomes even more interesting when the handkerchief travels quickly from one player to another.
